http://mexalex.com/tag/nalgas-en-la-playa/ When it comes to moving your entire life to Australia, we’re talking about a decision that’s life-changing in every possible way.
Some people find it easy to make decisions. I call these people psychopaths. Me? It takes about half an hour to decide between a coffee or tea (I’m British…clearly, it should be tea!). And don’t even get me started on getting dressed. I go through more wardrobe changes than Madonna, just to head to Kmart…
What I’m trying to say is: this is a huge, mammoth, massive, gigantic, epic decision! Whether you’re a speedy decision-maker or a careful deliberator, you’ll want to take the time to think this one through in minute detail.
Make lists. Google more than you’ve ever Googled. Join forums (or just lurk). Read books and blogs. Listen to podcasts. Speak to anyone you know who has been through the same process.
Gather every little nugget of info you can find about moving to Australia; you’ll save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run. But don’t forget: this is exciting! It’s easy to get bogged down in the logistics of it all, so don’t lose sight of the goal. You’re moving to a brand new country and starting a brand new life!
It took me a good few months to come to a decision about the ‘big scary move’ and, even then, I was still terrified. I mean, I was choosing to spend a lot of money to permanently move to a country, 10,000 miles away, that I’d never even stepped foot in. Seems logical, right?!
I was convinced I’d get killed by a snake as soon as I stepped off the plane, my Casper-like skin was burning at the mere thought of the scorching Aussie sun (don’t move in the peak of summer!), and I was secretly hoping I’d end up with a pet koala – spoiler: they’re elusive little buggers.
In reality, I still haven’t seen a snake, I still haven’t been sunburnt (thank the science gods for SPF50!), and I’ve got a possum living (voluntarily) in my garage rather than a koala – which is probably for the best. Nobody wants Chlamydia…
With a brain full of research and a hefty list of pros and cons, I made the right decision. I moved to Australia and I haven’t looked back. You can do that, too!
Every Sunday, for the next five weeks, I’ll be writing about the top five things you’ll need to consider before you take the plunge. There’ll even be a few tips thrown in for good measure. I’m generous like that!
